Mexico Strengthens Consular Support for Nationals in Gaza Aid Flotilla

(MENAFN) Mexico’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Friday that it is stepping up its measures to safeguard the rights and well-being of its citizens taking part in an international humanitarian flotilla delivering aid to Gaza. This action follows directives issued by President Claudia Sheinbaum.

The ministry explained that the Mexican participants are affiliated with the Global Sumud Flotilla. It added that officials have remained in direct communication with their families while also working closely with Mexican embassies and consulates in the region to track developments and ensure necessary consular assistance is available.

Mexico reaffirmed its request that Israel ensure the physical and psychological safety of its nationals, provide access to consular services when needed, and fully adhere to international legal standards, including human rights and humanitarian law.

According to the ministry, one Mexican citizen who had been on a vessel intercepted at sea has already returned to Mexico City on May 2 after diplomatic efforts were made. The remaining six participants are still in contact with Mexican authorities, and they are reported to be in stable and good condition.

The ministry further noted that it has conducted several meetings with the families of those involved to share updates on diplomatic actions and address their concerns. It reiterated Mexico’s continued commitment to protecting its citizens abroad and supporting peaceful approaches to resolving international disputes.
