Trump Calls on Mexico to Intensify Its Fight Against Cartels, Drugs
"Mexico must step up their effort on Cartels and Drugs!" he wrote on his social media platform, Truth Social.
The operation took place Sunday when Mexican federal security forces targeted the CJNG in Tapalpa, a town roughly 130 kilometers (80 miles) south of Guadalajara, the capital of Jalisco state. Reports indicated that cartel leader El Mencho was killed during the confrontation.
In the aftermath, multiple road blockades and incidents of vehicle and business arson were reported across Jalisco and neighboring states, seen as potential retaliation by the cartel.
The Jalisco state government responded by urging residents to stay indoors, suspending public transportation, and activating a “red alert” due to threats to public safety.
Violence has surged in recent days across several Mexican states, raising concerns about further unrest.
